Feds strip local over-sight of waste waterAs part of Canada's Action Plan to improve Northern Regulatory Regimes, the downhole disposal of drill wastes (instead of long-hauling to Alberta) would no longer require a water licence under the Northwest Territories Waters Regulations but would be subject to monitoring and enforcement by the National Energy Board. It's interesting that COP still applied for a water license obviously not wanting to ruffle feathers. As expected, this change is not sitting well with the First Nations:
