RE:EDV v/s SMF
"Real investors" think in terms of years, not weeks. I know it's frustrating, but that goes with the territory of value investing, which is what I do. You get a heck of a lot of resource, plant, production and growth potential for your $ invested at the moment.
There is no place for a dividend whilst the company is in a growth and development phase. Right now, whilst uncertainty lingers over the gold price, cash preservation is vital. Once the gold price has clearly found a bottom and the company has finished investing in expanding its mines/production (or is close to finishing), then a dividend can be considered.
I am perfectly happy to wait whilst Endeavour proves that the market is grossly mispricing it. Next news will be the Q2 report in a few weeks. Hoping for good production & cost control but the company may have to write-down some of its past acquisitions. Perhaps its's fear of that that's keeping buyers away? Unrealised gains on hedges should keep the net asset/liability position sound, which is most important short-term.
