RE:PressureOil exploration companies will often increase the mud weight on deep wells (like Rango's well) when they are anticipating drilling into a highly pressured zone with gas and oil. This is good if they contact a very productive zone full of massive quantities of high pressure gas and oil. It can also be bad if the mud column an the drill hole does not have enough pressure at depth to prevent a blow out. There are heavy materials they can put in the mud to increase the mud weight. There is also a "blow-out preventer" at the top of the drill column. Obviously, Rango would like to hit a very productive zone at depth, but it does not want a blowout. I am sure that drilling engineers and geologists at Rango are closely monitoring the penetration rate of the drilling equipment and carefully monitoring the geological formations that the drill bit is encountering.
