A new telecom giant in Canada doesn't equal cheaper phone billOne must wonder why Wind, Public Mob and Mobilicity all aren't making that much money. Even all the new start ups are losing money, some you know they are even seeking a white knight. Those mentioned provides a much cheaper bill compared to the big Telcos.
My bill with Fido (Rogers) are a retention plan. Will change to Wind in November when my contract is up. Currently I pay $59 + tax, Ontario tax.
Wind is $30 basically unlimited all you need.
Fido (Rogers), $59 gives me 250 min talk, 3gb data
2x more than Wind. The point is this, Wind is so definitely undercutting their compeitors, they are not making enough money to substain or expand in the future. If verizon comes in, will the prices be still $30 where it isn't making money?
I guess the gov't goal isn't to make phone bill cheaper for the customers, as it is clear that prices won't change even if there were 100 different telco companies, rather the goal is, to win voters and consumer confidence by appearing the gov't is on their side.
