To grant something would be to give it so those options were issued with no cash going the other way. On the compensation for services, apparently McInnes contributed over $100K in services to AXY and chose to receive compensation in shares rather than cash. Taking it in shares rather than cash is a good thing. It is like insider buying as long as he actually did enough work to deserve the compensation.
