my experience both with TD and RY is if you are polite they will try and serve your needs especially for long time clients as the pool of customers can easily jump ship. The last thing they want is to lose a valued customer. It would not hurt to compare practices from the other banks, so when you do speak with them again you can explain "x" institution does not charge me the fee or will waive the fees if I switch over.
