COP risk mitigation – top notch
COP risk mitigation – top notchCOP is not taking any chances with toxic spills. A little known cleanup occurred this summer in the Central MacKenzie Valley when Husky & International Frontier spend $1million plus on a diesel spill from a well bore abandonment (L-71) – diesel is commonly put in the casing to act as a rust and frost inhibitor.
Here’s the COP plan instead:
“The original plan for the 2013 completions program was to pump diesel to displace water for the diagnostic fracture injection tests. This would provide a cap of non-freezing fluid at the top of the wellbore and in all of the valves on the wellhead necessary for well control. Through communications with completions personnel in ConocoPhillips’ Polish operations, the option of
using propylene glycol was raised as a non-toxic alternative for freeze protection. Propylene glycol will be used for the 2013 exploration drilling program, mitigating the risks associated with diesel.”
