The geopolitical jitters triggered heavy losses in Wall Street shares overnight
"There is so much uncertainty and this [Syria] is not just an abstract event," Hugh Johnson, chairman and CIO at Hugh Johnson Advisors, a portfolio manager, told CNBC Asia's "The Call."

"You need to have a strong will to jump into these markets under these conditions."

Tensions over Syria have escalated in the past few days. The government is believed to have used chemical weapons recently against scores of civilians and rebels who have been fighting the regime for two years.

The U.S. could hit Syria with missile strikes as early as Thursday, senior U.S. officials told NBC news.

The geopolitical jitters triggered heavy losses in Wall Street shares overnight and with Asian stocks broadly lower, the outlook for the European markets which open later in the day was not looking too good.
