As exhilarating as the initial breakthrough was for Sirius' led by prospector Mark Creasy, it is what Sirius' success did to the broader industry.
It reminded investors of the rewards that can come from risking an investment in a blue sky exploration stock.
When Sirius announced significant nickel and copper sulphide mineralisation of 3.8 per cent nickel and 1.4 per cent copper, at its Nova project, it sent Sirius up 1400 per cent in the following days. By March the shares had hit $4.99, valuing Sirius Reources at $1 billion-plus.
Sirius announced a resource for its Bollinger Project of 4.4 million tonnes grading 1.8 per cent nickel, 0.7 per cent copper and 0.07 per cent cobalt. Combined with the higher-grade Nova, it gave Sirius a total project resource of 14.6mt at 2.2 per cent nickel, 0.9 per cent copper and 0.08 per cent cobalt.
It rates as one of Western Australia's highest-grade new nickel finds.
