RE:RE:Why would Apple settle?bttmfisher: the numbers are my personal interpretation of WIN's chances (based on the recent settlements, the outcome of markman hearing, WIN's track record in other trials,..).

This is typically what a company does when it is served a summons: assess the financial risks involved to take the necessary provisions. In order to do so so it will put percentages on the possible different outcomes of the trial and calculate the average amount => depending on the difference with a proposed settlement amount and the average amount you decide whether or not to settle.

The difficulty in this case that there is no maximum amount set so Apple should be more eagerly to settle. However as indicated I think that Apple is looking at the bigger picture here and could look at this suit as a testcase.
