The nickel occurs in pentlandite at this occurrence also, which is very important as far as metallurgy is concerned. If it occurs in puratites recovery can be a problem and if it occurs in silicates it is almost impossible to get out according the geologist John Pattison- It can be gotten out of pentlandite.
He was also making note of this-
Basically nickel comes from the earth's mantel, and you get an event which causes a 'Mantel Melt', in this case the asteroid. Then the material from the mantle, the magma which contains the nickel, combines with the 'country rocks' which exist in the land above. The 'country rocks' need to have sulphides for the nickel to be attracted to, then it has the be the right kind of sulphides as described above, which contain pentlandite. These situations exist in this situation and that is why they are so excited I believe.
