Examining Options for LNG Facility and Export Terminal
Nexen has entered into an exclusive agreement to examine the potential for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant and export terminal at Grassy Point near Prince Rupert, British Columbia.
The agreement with the Government of British Columbia grants Nexen, as the operator, and our joint venture partners INPEX Corporation and JGC Corporation the right to pursue long-term access to Crown land at Grassy Point.
The potential development of a LNG facility and export terminal at Grassy Point is part of our long-term vision to deliver clean-burning natural gas from our abundant shale gas assets in northeast British Columbia to growing Asia-Pacific markets.
LNG export is a viable option for maximizing the value of Nexen's shale gas resource. Third-party evaluators have estimated that the natural gas assets Nexen and our joint venture partners share in the Horn River and Cordova basins hold up to 15 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of recoverable contingent resources, while the Liard lands are estimated to contain up to 23 tcf of prospective resources.
