De Beers focus area
De Beers focus areaThe De Beers focus area that is mentioned in the lastest press release is of great interest.
This stat is a bit old, but when I worked in Canada, it cost De Beers $700k to find a diamondiferous kimberlite and it cost juniors $1.1M. The difference can be attributed to De Beers superior mineral chemistry analysis. Juniors would waste time finding barren kimberlites where De Beers would only focus on the fertile ones.
There is a very good chance this new area De Beers has located will be diamondiferous. Furthermore, there is a chance that the emplacement age is different. If they are younger then there is a chance they will be bigger since they have seen less glaciation. Would really like to get more information on this area with some maps...
De Beers has explored Baffin Island before, so they know what they are doing there. Probably can't say too much more because it is not public domain.
