Terms of Ring of Fire deal not released Written by Mike Aiken on Wednesday, 27 November 2013 The fallout continues at Queen's Park over the Ring of Fire. Ontario's NDP leader Andrea Horwath dismissed the province's appeal for federal help, saying it was like the student's excuse 'the dog ate my homework.' "As a cabinet minister, the premier herself went to Capreol and announced thousands of jobs. Those were the government's words, thousands of jobs. People want to know what happened to those thousands of jobs," she said.During debate yesterday, Premier Kathleen Wynne told the legislature she remains committed to the project, and she believes the mine will open."In their letter of November 20th, 2013, Cliff's says they will continue to work with the Ontario government, First Nations communities and other interested parties to explore potential solutions related to the critical subject of infrastructure," she said.Earlier this month, the project worth billions was cast in doubt, when a major partner suspended work. However, Horwath wanted to know more about a deal between the government and Cliff's Natural Resources, which never materialized."In May 2012, the finance minister confirmed the government had reached an agreement with Cliff's regarding plans to process chromite in Capreol. Either the minister was mistaken, or this agreement exists. If it does, what commitments did the Liberals make?" she asked.Premier Kathleen Wynne responded by saying terms of the deal can't be released."I know that she knows that what she's referring to is commercially sensitive and some personal information," the premier replied, while referring to the leader of the NDP.The future of the mega-project worth billions is in doubt, after Cliff's suspended their operations earlier this month.Even Cliff's Natural Resources decided to suspend their work in the Ring of Fire, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne continues to believe the province is open for business, and the project will be completed.Earlier this week, Mining Minister Michael Gravelle traded words with the federal minister responsible for the project, Kenora MP Greg Rickford. - See more at: https://www.kenoraonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7209&Itemid=160#sthash.qDqYNPVg.dpuf
