RE:Telus and EHR

RE:Telus and EHRElectronic Health Record implementations have been underway throughout Canada for many years.  In BC it's called the "Electronic Health Record", in Alberta it is called "Netcare", in Saskatchewan it is the "Electronic Health Record", in Manitoba it is called "eChart", in Ontario... well it's simply a mess there, in NS it's called SHARE, etc, etc.  This is the tragic flaw in CHI's pan-Canadian strategy.  Rather than put forward a strategy that would have resulted in a unified pan-Canadian health record, they instead funded individual provincial initiatives.  This has resulted in each province duplicating effort by developing/implementing their own disparate EHR systems to consolidate/distribute health information.  None of theses systems share information and CHI has yet to come up with a strategy to address.

I think it's very likely we will see further consolidation in the EMR space.  If Telus opts to take out QHR, it will simply be to get into the EMR space.  I don't see Telus being the company to deliver a pan-Canadian EHR.  Politics are simply too thick to support.
