RE: InjectorsIn a Feb/99 news release requarding the Eagle II, Zexel Fuel Injection Co. is mentioned. However, on AFS's website under alliances, no mention of Zexel (or Bosch Automotive Systems Corporation) is given even though the other companies mentioned in the news release (ISUZU, Matros, Johnson Matthey and Englehard Corp.) are given. I wonder if Zexel/Bosch is still involved with AFS or if this was just a limited interaction.
"This stunning breakthrough technology is the result of very close cooperation between AFS, ISUZU Motor Company, Zexel Fuel Injection Co., Matros Technologies Inc., Johnson Matthey and Engelhard Corp.'' states Paul Newman, AFS Vice President of Engineering. "By applying AFS technologies, the auto industry's newest all-electronic diesel engines can now expect to meet tough new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), California Air Resources Board (CARB), Japanese Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) and Euro III emission regulations."

The following article is from Zexel's home page. If Zexel's technology was used in the Eagle II, maybe a modified version of this unit injector was employed. (I assume "high-speed electromagnetic valve" is synonymous with high speed solenoid valve.)
Unit Injector System
This system combines the nozzle, which injects the fuel, and the plunger, which compresses the fuel.
One unit Injector is installed for each cylinder of the engine. Each of these unit injectors is equipped with a high-speed electromagnetic valve and is controlled by an ECU.
Because this new system does not require injection pipes, compression efficiency is increased and the injection pressure is higher than all other types of injection systems.
