RE:RE:UPDATE 2-Camera glitch triggers marathon Russian spacewalkThe share price probably will get hammered, as there are undoubtedly a lot of folks like yourself (and myself, to a degree) who were hoping for a quick pop on the successful installation of the cameras.
I'm not planning to sell anything just yet. It would appear that I missed that opportunity when I was out shopping this afternoon. Meanwhile, this technology is pretty groundbreaking stuff and I think the Russians want this technology installed for their own unique reasons, just as much as we capitalist North Americans want it installed for our own reasons. Urthecast has the cooperation of both NASA and the Russians on getting this installed, and that's a pretty major vote of confidence in the company... I don't think NASA is going to walk away just yet. (Besides with reduced US government funding of NASA, they might just need revenue partners like Urthecast in the future, but that's not a reason for owning the stock... just something to think about, though).
Once successfully installed cameras begin streaming pictures, there will be a nice pool of recurring revenue potential with this company, as various scientific organizations and techy geeks will be all over this via subscription revenue from premium photo privileges; and additionally, potential advertising revenue will come as more mainstream users, like you and me, sign up for free-streaming ... as we all know, it's pretty interesting technology.
I don't think it will be weeks before another space walk is attempted, but it's not going to happen tomorrow, either. But think about it... the Russians spent 8 hours on a spacewalk trying to install this technology. They delayed numerous scientific tests, so it tells us what how much they value having this equipment being installed, don't you think?. When have the Russian kowtowed to anyone? It's not like they would spend 8 hours trying to install equipment and delay their own scientific tests if they didn't have a vested interest in the successful installation of this equipment. It will get done eventually.
In addition, everyone started selling this stock this afternoon, as if the bloody space-station had exploded (God forbid that doesn't happen, of course). Think about it though... these technicians have built a galldarned space-station from scratch, and they have figured out how to send pictures back from Mars and Jupiter; so while it might take a while, I think they will be able to figure out a tecnhical glitch on the electrical components from the camera installation. Hell, it might even be something as simple as some dingbat American who used Imperial measurements instead of metric - not like that hasn't happened before :-p
As frustrating as this sell-off might be, a little patience is probably called for. It's undoubtedly good that IIROC halted this stock this afternoon. The large sell-off this afternoon was a classic case of panic selling on incomplete news, precisely the reason why "Halts" should be invoked in the first place.
That said, without further news on the reasons for the technical glitch, and follow-up about when the next attempt at installation might be, then I'd gird yourself for further downside in the stockprice next week... at least until such time as the uncertainty is removed (with new published timelines for the next attempt at installation)
No risk... No reward :-)
Have a good weekend folks!
