Don't get me wrong. I think its a brilliant strategic move. Essentially they are saying, these are the results we would expect to get if we were to run a trial designed this way, and this data would be good enough for an approval if it holds up in a larger population. Its just that the FDA still sees this as a trial that failed to meet its primary endpoint. There definitely seems to be enough data to get people to sit down and discuss a partneship and not just the statin guys though. I am mainly encouraged by the relatively short timeframe and small number of pateints to get these results. That is key even if they have to re-do a PhII.
