Turkish minister says Iraq's Luaibi comments must have been misinterpreted

17 Jan 2014 - 16:39

ANKARA, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Any goods subject to a customs transaction would not be smuggling and comments from Iraq's oil minister on taking potential legal action against Turkey must have been "inaccurately expressed", Turkey's energy minister told the SKY 360 TV channel on Friday.

"Every week they make a different statement," Taner Yildiz said, referring to the central government in Baghdad.

"I see this statement as an inaccurately expressed sentence."

Iraq will take legal and other measures to punish Turkey and Iraqi Kurdistan, as well as foreign companies, for any involvement in Kurdish exports of "smuggled" oil without Baghdad's consent, Iraq's oil minister Abdul Kareem Luaibi said
