Source rocks in centre of the rift are proven in an earlier well (Forabola-1) north of the licence area and in a very recent well (Nganga-1) drilled by Soco in the Nganzi Licence. In addition to the exploration wells, oil has been found contaminating water wells and there are extensive tar sands to the north .
