RE:one more trygoodheart-r Re more history: December 5th 2005 by MEI: :: Outokumpu's Technology for Xstrata's Ferrochrome Plant in South Africa: Outokumpu Technology has been awarded a contract to supply two pelletizing and sintering lines for Xstrata's Wonderkop ferrochrome plant extension in South Africa. The total contract value is over EUR 100 million, of which Outokumpu Technology's scope of supply is some EUR 28 million. The main contractor for the project is a joint venture of South African companies Metix (Pty) Ltd, Tubular Technical Construction and Royal Bafokeng Finance. Outokumpu Technology will supply the core pelletizing and sintering technology consisting of the license, basic engineering and supply of key equipment. The scope also covers the supervision of installation and start-up of the plant as well as the training of the operating personnel. The production capacity of each pelletizing and sintering line is 600 000 tonnes of chromite pellets per year. With the gross production of 1.2 million tonnes once operational making it the largest in the world. The commissioning of the first line is scheduled for the 2nd quarter of 2007 and the plant is expected to reach full capacity by the end of 2007. Xstrata, the largest ferrochrome producer in the world, has decided upon Outokumpu's technology in order to enhance efficiency, reduce operating costs and improve environmental performance of the plant. This leading process has already been chosen for seven other plants in South Africa, the last contract being announced less than two months ago." As such, KWG Glencore relationship & (KWG's patented?) Gas Fired Chromite Ore Reduction to Ferro Chrome could also involve Outokumpu.
