RE:RE:Key benefits of POET the platform
You can’t compare POET to Ballard. The Ballard fuel cell was primitive compared to what it is today. Also they were going after a market that was not ready for it. Their bus fleet which was a government initiative in BC required fuel to be brought in from Quebec. It was doomed for failure. Today Ballard’s market is growing in stationary application and for fork lifts (they supply the fuel cells to PLUG to power forklifts at warehouses throughout the US). They are well on their way to penetrating stationary uses for the telecom sector in china and India. What is fascinating about Ballard is the potential to be used a storage technology a market that Hydrogenics has a big future in. Anyways completely off topic and in no why comparable to the market for POET and the need for POET right now to extend Moore’s law without the difficulties and the technical challenges confronting industry at developing FinFET or 3d IC technologies. Ballard was a technology looking for a market and still is. POET is technology that has a huge market that needs a replacement to silicon CMOS if performance gains are to continue in the semiconductor space.
