Warning a bit of history here not about oil.
pommeric, New Zealand Maori & Cook Island Maori are genetically very closely related to the Tlingit, Haida and Kwakuitl. The Tlingit are from Prince of Wales Island, the Haida from Queen Charlotte Island & the Kwakuitl from Vancouver Island. The genetic link is the rare antigen HLA Bw48 gene. That links back to the native peoples of Taiwan. So there you go, they are the same people. In fact to take it further, Maori are not the native people of NZ meaning the Treaty of Waitangi is incorrect and iwi have not got a leg to stand on, or do they. The way the law is now Maori have both legs to stand on even though legally it's incorrect, but that is the law and that's how iwi have some control. Maori freely speek about the people that were here before them. Proof of this actually lies in a cave on the Taranaki coast, the Tongaporutu Rock Carvings. Other proof is Caucasian skulls (vastly different to Asian & Polynesian) dig up underneath ash of the last great Taupo eruption over 2000 years ago. I wont bore you any more, but needless the say it's very interesting to learn about NZs real history.
