Calgary, Alberta (Mar. 11, 2014) — Suncor Energy reports it has begun planned maintenance on one of the two oil sands upgraders (U2) at its oil sands operations near Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Approximately 1,200 employees and contractors will be involved in the work, which is scheduled to last approximately six weeks. During this period, the U2 complex will be partially shut down while the company’s other upgrader (U1) is expected to continue normal operations.
Suncor will focus on completing the maintenance work in a safe manner while minimizing impacts on our neighbours, our customers and the environment. Although the maintenance work may result in increased flaring, noise and traffic near Suncor’s operations, precautions have been taken to ensure these disruptions are kept to a minimum.
The planned maintenance is expected to support safe, reliable operation of upgrading assets. Production impact has been factored into Suncor’s annual guidance.
