can he do it again?
Yappn's parent company, INT has a dismal track record. It is not bashing to say the company has failed to execute which in turn has led to a failure to deliver. A lot of talk has taken place about revenue but it still remains a noun and not a verb. Where the CEO of INT has not failed to deliver is in the creation of an epic stock run in the spring of 2011. Well we all know the aftermath. The market downturn combined with a dismal corporate performance resulted in a disastrous stock performance that left many investors with less worth than what they started with. Back in the day it was a thing called Ortsbo that was growing faster than Facebook. Ortsbo was and is a great translation tool but it was never a true social media platform unto itself and yet at one point it was valued at $500 million. Oh the good old days lol.
It is now 2014 and INT's offshoot Yappn is in the process of building a most interesting social media product called Fotoyapp which is a consumer driven hybrid combination of Twitter and Instagram with the addition of populated social media content in up to 70 languages by the use of keywords around a photo image on a virtual social media wall. Yappn is a chat site unto itself. Yappn has a set of tools that enable brands to become more globalized using real time translation fundamentals. The theory is that brands will sell more to a larger audience by engaging the consumer in their native language. All very interesting stuff but investors are still waiting to see revenue in their pudding.
This new thing Fotoyapp sounds kind of interesting doesn't it? A picture is worth a 1000 words and all that good stuff. People powered pics. Sounds neat! See all the buzzwords in Fotoyapp's detailed description below. Does anyone doubt that users will flock to this social media innovation? If 230 million people were using Ortsbo at one point then that same number plus plus will be drawn to using a photo themed platform with all the bells and whistles and seamless integration to most other social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. This is heady stuff. Fotoyapp is currently flying under the radar and waiting to be discovered through launching. Exciting times ahead for Yappn. Even more exciting times for Yappn's stock YPPN in my humble opinion.
"This feature will provide the user with an opportunity to post an image, from an existing location or camera, tablet or other device and then connect it socially to content like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and other major social platforms. As an example, a food image could be connected to a restaurant's location and URL, popular restaurant rating sites and other related online content, providing viewers of the image with a total picture of the image. A restaurant in turn could share the image with its other constituents and sites, creating image and content sharing in almost 70 languages as it defaults to the viewer's language in real-time and seamlessly. This system can be duplicated for products and services where images can be used to create value for commercial purposes and connect to Yappn's eCommerce multilingual offerings.
Fotoyapp builds on the idea that "a picture is worth a thousand words" by revolutionizing social engagement allowing images and content to be linked to each other and shared instantly, in almost any language substantiating the thought that complex ideas can be conveyed through visualization. Fotoyapp creates the ability to share beyond the image integrating content from web, portable and mobile devices, allowing users to instantly connect photos and images to almost any social content and in almost any language.
The advance features will provide users with the ability to connect with their constituents, not only through social outlets but also web sites and eCommerce platforms instantly through images. This allows seamless integration of awareness and revenue based programming along with curated advertising.
Fotoyapp allows users to share socially empowered images through any platform (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, QZone, LinkedIn, Google+, Tencent, Sina Weibo, Renren and Yappn Chat), email, device or app and rewards the viewer with a completely rich experience not found anywhere else, creating People Powered Pics.
