Highbank Resources Gets Green Light to begin Swamp Point North Aggregate Project Laryn Gilmour 3/21/2014 After six years of planning and development Highbank Resources plans to begin the Swamp Point North Aggregate Project, after the company received a Notice of Work Permit approval for the land which is located 78 miles by sea north of Prince Rupert. The CEO of Highbank Resources Victor Bryant says the company has already signed its first sales contract with West Fraser Concrete for 100,000 tonnes of aggregate and with production expected to begin this summer, the company is working on training local First Nations to fill jobs. "What we will do with the First Nation and the Metlakatla is take in people from certified courses and train those heavy equipment operators. Once we are up and running, we will be using the Metlakatla people where ever possible and we are looking at getting joint ventures moving with the Metlakatla people." Highbank's initial targeted production rate is 235,000 tonnes a year, but with the anticipated growth in demand from LNG terminals by 2015, the company may apply for a permit to expand production. "We felt that our objective was to supply the LNG construction projects, we are already bidding on one project and that's going to require 300,000 tonnes." Aggregate is an industrial crushed rock that is the primary ingredient in concrete. It is the world's most mined material next to oil.
