'Maybe this is the reason: Bob Claus, who works for the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council, said the shortage of private financing should be a warning. “The proponents of the project have not established that the potential mine is in any way a viable project, have not been able to attract private investment to their proposal and have not demonstrated that the mine, if developed, would benefit the communities on Prince of Wales,” he said in a letter to the Senate committee, addressing the Bokan mine. “This bonding authority is a misuse of state funds to support a purely speculative and controversial project,” he wrote.'

Truly laughable. Do you know what the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council is? They represent fishermen and hunters and such and the good ol boys. Here is a snippet:
Bob is a 25-year Alaska resident, and uses the diverse skills learned in 22 years as an Alaska State Trooper to further SEACC's goals in the rural communities of southern Southeast. Bob enjoys the challenge of working with everyone from local residents to regional agency staff to national and congressional officials in Washington D.C.
Bob is an elected member of the Craig City School Board and serves on several boards and committees supporting alternative rural development. Bob spends his spare time fishing, boating, hiking, kayaking, scuba diving, dog training, and sharing the wonders of Southeast Alaska with family and friends. He is happiest with muddy pants and wet boots.
I'd have to say he is certainly all wet when it comes to his comments about Ucore. lol
This conservation group is seriously a non-factor here. Ucore has all the politicans behind them and the land was intended to be developed specifically forestry and mining. It is a very good place for this project to be located.
Good luck to all,
