In context of yesterday’s (Feb. 18th) news from IBC Advanced Alloys regarding key progress in its relationship with Lockheed Martin for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program; we’re passing on a link to CBS’s popular Sunday night news show 60 Minutes. The special report called “Is the F-35 worth it?” provides insight into the program, the U.S. commitment to the new age fighter but also the Defense Department’s tough line on bringing costs down for the F-35.
In the segment, it explains that the F-35 program is seven years behind schedule and $163 billion over budget. As such, the spotlight is clearly on Lockheed.
Yesterday, IBC Advanced Alloys announced that it has been awarded a hard tooling contract from Lockheed Martin for the F-35’s Electro-Optical Targeting System. In the news release, IBC outlines that it is “demonstrating the viability of Beralcast® castings to improve lead times and affordability of high performance aerospace components made from beryllium aluminum alloys.” Not only is Beralcast® a superior product, ideal for the aerospace industry, IBC can also produce it significantly quicker and less expensively than competing products.
It can be assumed that this ties directly to Lockheed’s commitment to improving efficiencies in the F-35 program outlined in the 60 Minutes piece.
