Your one size fits all thinking shows a distinct lack of understanding of the wide array of investors out there.  Younger investors can take on more risk and tend to have smalle portfolios that can't be spread over 20+ stocks.  When I was younger I built a lot of wealth on 5 stocks at a time quite nicely.  Now I spread it out more, look more for dividend paying stocks and have both cash reserves and real estate investments to add diversity on top of my company pension plan.
