Answer....
Not to be facetious but the answer is shrinkage.
Shrinkage of traditional silicone based semiconductors have reached its limits in terms of cost production vs heat performance and power consumption.
POET’s solution is to produce a compound semiconductor that operates on a gallium arsenide wafer and photonics. This allows performance increased of 10X-100X roughly and similar power consumption savings as compared to traditional silicone chips.
