Canadian facility will produce graphene powder for 3D printing

Grafoid, a Canadian producer of graphene materials, has signed an agreement with advanced materials manufacturing consultancy Altamat to build an atomisation facility to produce graphene-based powders and filaments for 3D printing.

This signals Grafoid’s entrance in to the additive manufacturing (AM) arena.

The agreement provides Grafoid with the exclusive global rights to apply technologies invented by Dr Hani Henein, the founder of Altamat, for use in a wide range of functionalised powders for 3D printing applications.

Currently, Grafoid’s MesoGraf process transforms raw, unprocessed graphite ore to scalable, high-purity, few layer graphene.

The atomisation facility will be built at Grafoid's facility located at the Innovation Park technology center in Kingston, Ontario.

Products on demand

"Success in 3D graphene printed materials markets comes from an ability to create the highest performing products at the lowest possible cost on a safe and environmentally sustainable basis," said Grafoid CEO Gary Econom.

"Our agreement with Altamat and Dr. Henein's engineering expertise adds yet another element to Grafoid's expanding portfolio of MesoGraf graphene development," he added.

Grafoid aims to supply a wide range of Mesograf-based powders and filaments that will allow manufacturing companies in every industry to use AM processes to produce their end products on demand, and not solely for prototyping purposes.
