Morgan stanley is at the centre of this manipulation.  They tend to know when news is forthcoming and run the stock down ahead of this news and any price increase will bring it back to the level before they moved the price down.  It seems that they have a price that a buyout or merger is being  based upon.  We wouldn't want the stock price to take off before the offer.  Then the offer would look like sheet and shareholders would not vote in favour of the buyout..
