I too am disappointed Alterra did not keep 100% of Jimmy Creek. As a hydro project I did not think the development costs would be too much to handle. After all it is near Toba-Montrose and the roads and transmission line are in place, just need to be pushed out to the new site. As a project with a 40 year power purchase agreement with BC Hydro I didn't think the financing would be difficult to get. I guess having a partner does share the risks, but also the rewards on what I thought of as a straight forward project. I can understand them wanting to share risk on the geothermal properties in South America. Looking at what has happened to Ram Power,and all the problems drilling and geology can throw at you, I think sharing the risk was appropriate. I thought they would keep more than a 30% interest. Especially when the project is in an active tectonic zone. I can only hope they keep more than 51% of the Texas wind farm.
