RE:RE:The NewYorker: What We Left BehindKurd33,
are you really a Kurd or is that just an avatar name you picked out to give your posts more credibility. Kurdistan the most peaceful, prosperous, and only autonomous province of Iraq is is a shining example for the rest of the country. It is in fact ruled by a political dynasty, namely the Barzani family with strong opposition coming from the party of Talabani, which is politically
healthy.
Regarding your statement about independence being 10yrs minimum would you care to explain what you base that on.
If you told me 4yrs ago that Turkey and Kurdistan would be joined in self interest, I would have been sceptical to say the least. I think you underestimate the power of Oil, and 10yrs is a very long time in politics and economics.
Now will Iraq stand in the way of KRG independence? That is not the question.
The question is "will Iraq survive as a country" is more to the point. Right now it is a disaster, and it is far from certain that it will exist in a few years time.
For any Kurd to have your pessimistic view, they would never have survived the hundred of years of persecution.
