Letters from Working GroupIn total there were seven letters. The Gitxsan and Gitanyow letters were identical and basically stated that they are concerned with potential harm to Morrison Lake, which could affect their fishing lifestyle. The Lake Babine Nation letter was much more comprehensive and condescending towards PBM and their efforts. They site concerns over the geo-liner, BC Water Quality Guidelines, the prevention of PAG rather than the treatment of PAG but most of all that there is currently not a revenue sharing program negotiated by PBM with LBN. As someone very familiar with this project, it appears they just want money. This is not PBM's responsibility, rather it is the governments. The other letters are from the Federal side and Provincial. The Provincial letter written by Kim Bellfontaine is definitely the biggest plus as she has turned 180 degrees from the letter she wrote in 2012 that enabled Sturko to write a recommendation letter to reject the project. Kim expresses some concern, which are valid, but her tone is one of appreciation for providing more information on the liner, the TSF as well as effluent that could potentially discharge into the lake. Her letter should be seen as a positive and she is a key person in this process as evidence of the 2012 rejection we all know far to well. The Federal letter is all abut obtaining more information and data on the liner as well as the TSF. They wished that PBM used a preventative solution for PAG rather than treatment (pro active versus reactive) but state that the solution designed by KCB is acceptable. The Federal (CEAA) also want more information on the geo-liner and asked Rowe to provide more data as to the material, size and longevity of its effectiveness. All in all, this looks relatively constructive versus 2012's submission. The bottom line is whether or not the Liberals are going to push this through or not and unfortunately, they hold PBM's destiny.
