Maliki urges for resolution of disputes between Baghdad and Erbil 08.05.2014 BasNews, Baghdad Nouri al-Maliki, the current Prime Minister of Iraq, talked about the issues between Baghdad and Erbil in his weekly speech. Al-Maliki said that several issues must be resolved in the new government, including the problem of disputed areas, the unified oil and gas law, the formation of an Oil High Council, the Federal Council, the Iraqi population survey, and so on. Many of the issues highlighted by al-Maliki in his speech were related to disputes between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the central government. In his speech, al-Maliki also said that he wants to form a government of the political majority, urging that such a government should not be built upon religious and sectarian bases. Based on the initial results of the Iraqi parliamentary election, Nouri al-Maliki’s Law Coalition is currently on top. He is expected to win the election but he will need more than that to form the new government.
