Tim Twomey Agrees to Lead Exploration on GoldON’s Slate Falls Gold-Silver Property
Twomey played a key role in the discovery, development and production of Goldcorp’s "High-Grade Zone" at Red Lake, Ontario
Victoria, British Columbia (FSCwire) - GoldON Resources Ltd. (TSX-V: GLD) (“GoldON” or the “Company”) is pleased to report that Tim Twomey has agreed to manage the 2014 exploration work on the Company’s new Slate Falls Gold-Silver Project in Northwestern Ontario.
Tim is a professional geologist, and independent Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101, with over 25 years of exploration, production and management experience. He has a golden track record that includes playing a key role in the discovery, development and production of Goldcorp's "High-Grade Zone" at Red Lake, Ontario. The High-Grade Zone is one of the most important gold discoveries of the last 20 years, regarded as the highest grade gold mine in the world, and the backbone of Goldcorp’s Red Lake operation.
Tim’s previous experience includes positions with Goldcorp at Red Lake from 1994 as an underground geologist to 2008 as Senior Exploration Geologist of their Regional Exploration Team in the Red Lake Area; and with Premier Gold Mines from 2008 to 2012 as Exploration Manager and Vice President of Exploration.
“Tim was our first choice and we are thrilled he has agreed to lead our 2014 exploration efforts on the Slate Falls property. His knowledge of the Archean greenstone belts of Northwestern Ontario will be invaluable in interpreting the historical exploration data on the Property and selecting our initial drill targets,” said Mike Romanik, President of GoldON.
About the Slate Falls Property
The review of historical exploration on the Property has identified at least six gold (Au) and silver (Ag) zones that have produced chip, channel and drill core sample assays of up to 861.3 grams per tonne (g/t) Au and 1,088 g/t Ag that are commonly associated with polymetallic shear-vein systems. These geological characteristics are very similar to those found at the Golden Patricia Mine, where 619,796 ounces of gold was taken from a single high-grade quartz vein that displayed a suite of associated metals. Importantly, on the Slate Falls Property the sheared volcanic wall rock that hosts the high grade veins has received little attention despite chip sampling that returned 4 g/t Au over 3 meters (m) and 3.1 g/t Au over 2.5 m. These shear zones represent important exploration targets even if the quartz veining is not present.
Earlier stage targets on the Property include: the Path Occurrence, and the L1, Carpenter and L15 Zones. The two more advanced targets are the Sanderson and Trail Zones.
The Property was last drilled in 1984 and assessment records indicate that only twenty-six holes have ever been completed on the Property. This represents an excellent exploration and discovery opportunity for GoldON as the majority of these holes were very shallow and the targets have never been tested to depth.
