RE:Russia sanctionsEric from blog prosperitysaskatchewan raised the followig questions:
The bigger issues are: (1) Will the Government of Canada place sanctions on Russian potash exports, thus driving up – at least for the short-term – the need for Saskatchewan potash? (2) Will the Government of Canada place sanctions against Russian holdings in Canada, thus disabling Acron and giving Rio an undesirable business partner? (3) Can the region’s infrastructure (especially water) support three mines in a small area (Western, Vale, and Rio/Acron) – thus who builds first is the only one built? (4) Can Western raise $5-billion? (5) Who will build first thus by way of infrastructure ruin the plans of the other 2? (6) Can Rio mine around the Western holdings in KP 405 or if not, what will they need to pay to get them? (7) Will Rio buy-out Acron then Western? (8) Since the grades (the amount of potash per tonne of rock in the ground) at K+S’s Legacy and BHP’s Jansen projects are better, and they will likely be built first, does the world need any potash from Western, Vale, or Rio?
