"Dr. Shapiro further stated, "We will now begin to assess both the longer-term safety and efficacy of islets placed in the Cell Pouch in patients with diabetes, and will follow them for up to THREE YEARS. We look forward to presentation of additional results as the study progresses.
Shows potential, but another 2 1/2 years to wait for final studies, then a time period to tweek it before anyone comes a knocking. Might be worth the gamble if your willing to wait and funding is not an issue next year.
