7/25/00 - Global Election Announces Year-End System Sales
> Business Editors
VANCOUVER, B.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 25, 2000--Global Election Systems Inc. (TSE:GSM.) announced today its voting system sales of AccuVote and AccuVote-TS (touch screen) for the year ended June 30, 2000.
The Company shipped 2,689 AccuVote and AccuVote-TS units in fiscal 2000. Global is also pleased to report revenue of US$20.3 million or Cdn$29.9 million for the year ended June 30, 2000 - up 11.09% over fiscal 1999. The full financial results will be announced upon completion of the year end audit.
Contributions to the sales figures come from Global's further expansion into the Canadian marketplace. Global reports add-on sales of 60 AccuVote systems to the City of Ottawa and 70 to the City of Hamilton as well as first-time sales of 60 AccuVote-TS systems to the City of Barrie and 70 to Dynabec, Global's authorized distributor for Quebec. Additional in roads were also made in Florida with the shipment of 165 units to Polk County, increasing Global's market share in this heavily populated state and expanding Global's representation in Florida to 17 counties. The strong system sales during fiscal 2000 and the late acceptance of orders in the month of June resulted in a current backlog of 70 AccuVote-TS units that will be shipped during the first quarter of fiscal 2001. Global's first quarter will also be supported by a number of elections scheduled until October 2000 as well as by the number of trial elections the Company will be handling leading up to the U.S. presidential election in November.
Howard T. Van Pelt, President and CEO, said that the system sales this year can be partially attributed to the substantial increase in election activity in the U.S. as large numbers of jurisdictions update their voting equipment for the November 7th U.S. general election. However, Global's strategic and successful move into the international election marketplace, in Puerto Rico and the U.K. as well as its further expansion into Canada has contributed to the over 1,000 elections that the Company will be handling this year. The continued success of these trials has demonstrated the speed, accuracy and efficiency of Global's software and hardware products and has further solidified the Company's reputation in this industry.
Global provides leading-edge technology to the international election marketplace, currently serving over 800 voting jurisdictions in the United States and Canada.
