Lucara’s Boteti Mining sees 2014 revenue at $160m

17.06.2014

Lucara Diamond’s wholly-owned Boteti Mining, which owns Karowe Mine in Botswana, is set to earn revenue of up to $160 million from diamond sales this year.
A company representative Ribson Gabonowe told the Botswana Resource Sector Conference that up to 420,000 carats would be sold this year.
He said Boteti, which commenced mining at Karowe in 2012, had as at end of May this year recovered 44 gem stones weighing over 100 carats and seven gem stones weighing over 200 carats.
Gabonowe said the mine had established itself as one of the “leading” producers of large and exceptional value gem stones.
“Given the history of and anticipation of further large stone recovery, a large diamond recovery stage (LDR) is being added to the treatment plant,” he said.
“This will reduce the risk of damaging large diamonds.”
Meanwhile, Boteti said that Karowe had so far this year recovered 0.38 percent of the world’s diamonds and 50 percent of the world’s large and exceptional 100+ carat diamonds.
