RE:MathI saw a tv article last week (CBC or CTV) about the town of Kitsault being a ghost town since this mine shut down the last time.
Originally the town was built and owned by the mine and it was totally populated for the mine.
A developer bought the whole town for $5 million, including the hospital, post office, mall, curling rink etc. A whole and complete town.
The show was a rerun and appears to have been about a year old.
The houses are still furnished and the caretaker has kept everything in very good shape.
The intention in the beginning was to turn the town into a resort destination but in the recap at the end of the show they said that it was starting to be used by various utility companies and something to do with the liquified gas industry.
I found it very interesting that there was no mention of Avanti at all. Maybe the show was older than a year old?
I don't know if Avanti has plans to house its' workers in the town or if there has been any mention of it, but at least we know that the town is still there and very usable. It is mothballed but has been well maintained.
Amazing really.
Has Avanti made any mention of this?
