RE:S. 2569 + S. 159

RE:S. 2569 + S. 159PharmerBrent: check out this website... https://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d113:SN02569: My understanding of the process is that cloture on the bill has been approved. This means that now the Senate will first approve or disapprove any proposed amendments made by Senator Heller and others to the original S2569 bill. In other words in our case, they will decide by vote whether or not to add the Lyon County bill to Bill S2569. This will be a key vote to watch for. I expect it will be added without difficulty as it appears to be in the same form as S159 which was approved in committee and was added to the Senate Calendar for further consideration. Once the Senate has voted on all the other amendments....Bill S2569 AS AMENDED, will be put to the floor of the Senate for a vote, and if favourable, the amended bill will have passed the Senate. This is another key vote to watch for. My understanding of the process (which is admittedly a bit sketchy), is that the Senate will then send the house a message (assuming the bill has passed the Senate) that the bill has passed with amendments. (there are already some related HR--House bills) that are now part of S2569) I think the next step is for the house to then approve the bill as amended. This will be another key VOTE to watch for on the House of Reps website. If the house does not approve the amended bill from the Senate as proposed, I think there is the option for the bill to go to a joint House-Senate committee where the differences get thrashed out....I do not think we will need this step. For a bill to become law, the Senate and House versions have to be identical before it goes to the President where he can sign it into law. Its a convoluted process in my opinion but that's ultimately how the bill gets passed into law. Hope this helps....and the above process is accurate.... thomsoni
