Trying to understand

Trying to understandhow the rights offering works. Haven't dealt with this before. So do the "rights" just show up in my trading account under the new symbol in proportion to the common shares held? Or is there some form that is going to be mailed out that I have to return with instructions as to if I want to excersice the right to buy the common shares at the discounted price of $0.10 or what? Can somebody please explain a bit further? Thanks
