In the case of Bellatrix or Madalena, it's probable that there was a break clause in their agreements with underwriters and it was cheaper for the underwriters to pay the break fees to Bellatrix and Madalena and have them re-price their issuance, than it was for the underwriters to absorb the cost of being unable to find buyers for the issuance.
