"One third of the world doesn’t have electricity. That’s not in the U.S. They’re in Africa and Asia and places like that. That is a massive growth opportunity for us".
It is that sort of thinking that led to their acquisition of Alstrom, and is likely behind their interest in the gasification technology offered by Alter NRG. You can see why something like gasification has potential in parts of the world where there is no well established grid. It can stand on its own and produce energy based on feedstock that can be brought in using existing infrastructure.
