RE:RE:Let's find middle ground- name the negatives of this projectThanks. What about access to and from the site, power, water availability, environmental laws? Most gold mines use cyanide and need to adequatley handle the disposal. Mining can be very damaging to the ecosystem and it could take YEARS to get approval and have the locals on board.
I worked at Barrick Gold Pueblo Viejo gold mine in Domincan Republic during the end of the construction. There was minimal access and the locals would block the roads, light the tires on fire of the vehicles delivering material and so on. They needed cooperation with the military to help protect the construction zone.
Much of the people were also very angry that a lot of the work went to over seas workers such as myself (from Canada). This I can see being the case in Ecuador as they just wouldn't have the experienced work force to take on such a project.
What concerns me about this board at stockhouse is that there hasn't been much discussion about the real world problems that a big project will face being somewhere very remote and the lack of skilled workers. Let's face it, they won't have the workforce and you will see $80 an hour going to the trades person from Canada to get this project going.
