Boreal’s scientists have discovered a unique toxin, organically secreted from the Cannabis sativa plant and filed a provisional patent application related to the discovery, isolation and functional use of this toxin.  The functional properties of this toxin are varied and require further research. The Cannabis sativa plant is not affected by insects that normally destroy whole crops of other plants leading us to believe this is an effect of the double-knottin structure (toxin) which is naturally secreted by the plant.  Our researchers are currently expanding research and formulation of this toxin into a natural, plant derived bio-insecticide. Bio-insecticides are derived from natural resources and are inherently less toxic than conventional pesticides.
