Well I have to admit that I have no idea to what extend this practice is being used and anything that can be said is relative. What I do know is: It is being done to the extend that it has profound effect on the market as we all know.  Furthermore; those supercomputers which would make such manipulation easy do exist, possibibly they were built at the cost of millions. Also, this method is far more successful on a stock with great potential  because it recovers faster which allows for more repitition and bigger fluctuation. So you should not be surprised that they select stocks like AVO.
