lydian has been called a buyout target numerous times in the past, with recent mine optimization and now todays news I dont see any reason (except for manipulated goldprice) that someone wouldn't take a stab.  I don't think the company ever intended to bring the mine into production on there own. Once again today was a major hurdle for them.
